Books: The Cheapest Vacation You Can Buy

**********I am NOT ACCEPTING REVIEW REQUESTS AT THIS TIME.  I am VERY backed up and need to work on my current pile before I resume accepting requests.  Please check back in 2013. **********

I read many different genres because of my profession, and I am always looking for something new to read.  That being said, I cannot guarantee that I will have a positive review, but I can guarantee that it will be honest.  I try to remain as objective as possible when reviewing novels, as I know that my tastes are not always the same as other readers.   I do not accept money for reviews.

Genres I Love (please be advised, if there is ANY sex in your novel, I am not interested in reading it.  Please don’t even ask for me to review it.  I am highly turned off by almost every novel I’ve read that includes overt sexual dipictions):

  • Teens and YA Novels
  • Science Fiction and Fantasy Novels
  • Mystery and Thriller Novels
  • Literature and Fiction Novels

Please note that even though a book you propose falls under my “interests” list, your specific book may not appeal to me.  Please do not hold it against me if I decline your request.

Genres I Will NOT Read:

  • Erotica–NO SEX AT ALL.  I’m NOT interested in reading it.  So, don’t send it.
  • Religious Material
  • Extreme Horror
  • Poetry
  • Textbooks
  • Tourist Guides
  • Guide books in general
  • Compilations of short stories
  • “How to” books
  • “Self-help” books

All other genres are a possibility, save these is no sex in them, so please do not hesitate to ask!

 Submission Types:

  • eBooks ONLY.  Kindle versions–mobi file (please include how many pages your novel is so I can gage a timeframe for review)
  • I do not accept any other form for review request. Please don’t ask.

Review Timeline:

  • I will begin reading the novel as soon as possible.  I will email you conformation the day I receive the novel if you send it via the post.
  • I tend to read books quickly, but my TBR pile is huge (100+ novels).  I hope to have the novel read within a few months of receipt, though this may not always be the case as I have long list of novels to read, and it’s getting longer.  If you are requesting multiple books, it will take longer for me to read them all, so please be patient.  If you are looking for a short wait time, I suggest looking at other indie book reviewers instead of me.
  • I will post my review as soon as possible once completing the novel.  I will email you the run date and time prior to the launch, along with a copy of the review.  I will also post to Amazon, Barnes and Nobel, Goodreads, and Smashwords (if you send me the version through them).
  • This policy is subject to change based on the amount of novels I am reviewing at the time.
  • If I accept your review, please DO NOT NAG ME about a read date or review timeline.  I don’t know.  I am doing the best I can, reading as fast as I can, writing reviews whenver I have a change, and working full time, so PLEASE, LET ME DO THINGS ON MY TIME.  If you nag me, I will drop your book for review.

***Update: Currently I have up to one and a half months of reviews already scheduled to run, so even though I may read the novel quickly, the actual review will not be running right away I will email you the review with the run date, and will post the review to Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes and Nobel right away, regardless of run date on the blog.***

Please note: Your ARCs/eBooks/Print Copies are safe with me – they are my prized possessions and I do not believe in selling them, or letting people borrow them.

And, in line with the FTC Guidelines, I just want to put it out there that I am not paid to review books. I purchase most of my own reading material, unless an author or publisher sends me a free copy of their book in exchange for an honest review. Books that I receive without purchase are disclosed at the bottom of the review. Books I have bought myself have, in the past, had no disclosure, but will in the future.

Not asking you to review my book – you may get to it when you prefer to do so. But I do have a book trailer available if you’d care to see it. It’s actually well done. If you are interested in a free copy of the book (eventually – we don’t mind waiting, even if it takes a year or more) please email us at sixletterpress@gmail.com

The trailer is located here:

in case that video file has been updated/changed, there will be a video available at the original youtube channel here:

I apologize for not emailing you but I can’t seem to determine your email address through this website.

Thank you.

Hi BV –

I see you’re not taking any new submissions, but I don’t see a date on the post “Review Policy”, so I’m not sure when “in a month” might be (apologies if I’m looking right at it). Could you post a ball-park date on when you think you might be opening again for submissions? Thanks and thank you for your work.

I won’t be taking any new submissions for quite some time. I have over 200 submissions and I’m still working through them all, with 145 books currently in line ahead of them.

I love the title Book Vacations. It reminds me of a poster I made in the ’70′s for my teaching degree. It had several scene depicted such as a rocket heading to the moon and Tom Sawyer on a raft. Each scene had a pull back tab with the book title beneath. The title of the poster was “Take a Trip on Reading” a play on words of course – it was the ’70′s!

Thank you for bringing back so many pleasant memories!

Hi! It’s great that you give indie authors a chance, because the traditional system appears to be broken and there are some really good reads out there!

My book is called “Battered Earth,” an international conspiracy thriller based on extreme weather. It takes place from Stockholm to St. Petersburg and was written to be a page-turner on a relevant social issue. It did receive the Editor’s Choice and Rising Star awards from iUniverse but now the challenge comes around getting people to take a look at it. If you are interested, I would be happy to mail you a hard-copy.

Thanks so much,
Deb

Hi – what a fantastic blog! Love the organization of it all. I read that you have enough books to keep you busy for a month and a half….How would you feel about stretching it out to two? ;-) I actually have two books out and while the first has many more reviews than the second, it’s the first I’m querying because the second is a sequel.

One reviewer called Appalachian Justice a “fictional memoir” and I think that’s a very accurate description. It spans the life of Billy May Platte, told in her words from her deathbed. In a very short nutshell, Billy May learned that 1940s West Virginia was not the place for questions regarding sexuality. After a brutal attack, she lived in seclusion for many years until she discovered the hideout of a young girl and had to make some tough decisions.

If you’re interested, I’m at AuthorMelindaClayton@gmail.com. Thanks for your consideration as well as for all your wonderful work!

Randall Luce says:

Are you still accepting books to review? You haven’t been deluged?

My mystery, Motherless Children, set in the Mississippi Delta during the 1940s, follows the 50-year rise and fall of a grand southern family. Adelia Southworth and her niece, Madeleine, are both posioned. The family doctor thinks only one of family members could have done it. Madeleline’s father is just as sure it’s one of the black servants. As family members and friends find reasons not to cooperate in the investigation, the Chief of Police wonders what, extacly, he isn’t supposed to find. The novel was a finalist in the first Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest.

The book is availabe on Kindle and in the Apple Store for I-Pads. Please let me know if you’re interested in reviewing it.

Hi… I must say I LOVE your blog layout and organized format and representation…and the book montage had me salivating!

I think you’ll really like my mixed-genre (in all the genres you dig) book, Death Whispers, about a 14-yr old boy that receives government-sanctioned inoculations (futuristic) that cause pesky paranormal abilities to manifest…throwing his life into a tailspin…Comedic, “real” teen dialogue should be a breath of fresh air. Please let me know if you’re interested. I like that you’re honest! TR :)

Very cool! I’ll email you.
